The Town of Brome Lake is launching a strategic reflection to help guide the future of its village core. As part of the review of the urban planning program, this process aims to ensure the village evolves harmoniously, in a manner that respects its unique identity, built heritage, and landscapes.
This initiative is being driven by a dual context. The current strength of the real estate market underscores the need to guide and manage future development, while the renewal of our underground infrastructure offers an exceptional opportunity to rethink the design of the village’s public spaces. The Town wishes to seize this pivotal moment to begin a collective reflection and take a position on the planning and consolidation of this area.
The objective of this process is to produce an illustrated, inspiring, and mobilizing planning vision document.
This document will serve as the foundation for:
The boundaries of the village core were carefully defined based on six key criteria that characterize the heart of our village:

To allow sufficient time to carry out this reflection, Town Council adopted an Interim Control Resolution (ICR) for the village core in August 2025. This by-law temporarily suspends certain types of projects in order to help us better define and guide future development in this strategic area.

As part of the development of the Vision Document, the Town implemented a public participation process to better understand local realities, residents’ needs, and aspirations for the future.
Carried out in several stages, the process created multiple opportunities for dialogue with residents and community stakeholders. The feedback and ideas gathered enriched the Town’s reflection and helped guide the next steps of the work.
a. February 2026 | Online Survey – Completed
Residents and visitors were invited to help deepen the territorial diagnostic by completing an online questionnaire. This one focused in particular on appreciation of the village core, architecture, land development and the planning of the living environment.
Open-ended response sections were also included to allow participants to share their concerns and highlight the issues and challenges specific to the territory.
382 people completed the questionnaire.

c. May 2026 | Meetings with various committees - Completed
Families and Seniors: A meeting was held with the Families and Seniors Committee to present the process, discuss the results obtained in the previous stages, and gather their feedback.
Merchants: At the same time, merchants from the village core were invited to take part in a roundtable discussion to voice their specific concerns, share their experience of the area, and provide their perspective on issues that directly affect them.
Urban Planning Advisory Committee (UAC): Given its role in planning and development, the Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) was asked to contribute to the process regarding the evolution of the village core. Discussions with its members helped to enrich the reflection and validate certain elements related to the sector’s vision and the work completed to date.
These discussions helped strengthen the understanding of realities specific to different community groups and informed the reflection surrounding the vision document.

Même si les textes sur les divers projets dont celui du noyau villageois sont quelque peu ronflants, la nouvelle administration a le bénéfice du doute sur les accomplissements et je dois la féliciter sur les intentions et la transparence et accessibilité des informations.
