The Town of Brome Lake, renowned for its bucolic landscapes, is home to a built heritage of exceptional richness and diversity. More than 275 buildings of interest, spread across seven distinct sectors, tell the story and evolution of our community.
In a context of strong growth, protecting this architectural legacy has become a priority. To ensure development that engages in a dialogue with the existing built environment, it was essential to develop a nuanced and shared understanding of what defines it.
With this objective in mind, the Town undertook the preparation of an illustrated guide intended to help residents and decision-makers preserve this shared heritage. To ensure consistency with municipal by-laws, the release of this guide will take place in two distinct stages.
The Town is making public today the first part of the document, dedicated to the characterization of architectural typologies. This educational component aims to help property owners better “read” and understand their building. Through illustrated fact sheets detailing key typologies, the document presents:
This entire process is grounded in intervention principles that promote the reversibility of modifications and harmonious integration into the landscape. This new tool also forms part of a broader strategy that will roll out in the coming months. By preserving our heritage, we contribute not only to the aesthetics of our village cores, but also to sustainable development and the quality of life of all Brome Lake residents.
(Coming soon)
It is important to note that the second part of the guide, which will deal specifically with the supervision of renovations, will be published at a later date. This technical section, which will include a detailed inventory of authorized door, window, and siding models, must be directly linked to the amendments to the zoning bylaw currently being developed. By deferring the publication of this normative section, the Town is ensuring that the tools made available to citizens will fully comply with the regulatory requirements that will soon come into effect.
